County golf courses to open for season | Sports

The rising temperatures and sunshine aren’t the only things signaling that spring is around the corner, or at least in the vicinity.

Kenosha County’s two golf courses will open for play this week, weather permitting, County Executive Jim Kreuser announced Tuesday.

Petrifying Springs Golf Course will open today, while Brighton Dale Links is scheduled to open Friday. Hours of operation to begin the season will be from 9 a.m. to dusk for both courses, seven days per week, weather permitting.

The courses will open earlier as the weather gets warmer.

“We are extremely excited about the upcoming golf season,” Kreuser said in a press release. “We invite people to visit our excellent public courses.”

Dan Drier, PGA professional and general manager of golf operations for the county, said some course renovations have been made to make them more enjoyable for guests.

“We have completed a renovation of Brighton Dale’s White Birch Course that included addressing the drainage, green surround and bunkers,” Drier said. “We have also had much of the underbrush in the wooded areas removed at Brighton Dale Links.

“We are really proud of our golf courses this season and excited for our guests to play them.”

Additionally, Petrifying Springs will welcome new superintendent Ryan Retherford, who worked previously at the acclaimed Blackwolf Run in Sheboygan.

Drier said daily fees and season passes will remain the same as they have for the last 10 years, with additional options including unlimited golf, senior and junior rates. New for this season, a state sales tax will be added to those rates.

To open the season at Brighton Dale, a Spring Scramble will be held on April 27. The event is a four-person, 18-hole scramble with prizes valued at over $4,200 and costs $60 per player. The cost includes greens fees, a cart, dinner and prizes, including a chance for a foursome to win adult season passes for 2019.

A Senior Scramble, which costs $49 per player, will be held on May 3.
