A man’s body has been discovered on a Merseyside golf course.

Police and paramedics were called to Bowring Park Golf Course in Huyton at 9am following the grim discovery.

The body of the man – believed to be in his 50s – was recovered.

Efforts to formally identify the man are ongoing so police can inform his next of kin.

At this stage the man’s death is being treated as “unexplained” say police.

Bowring Park Golf Course is one of the oldest municipal golf courses in the country.

It was closed suddenly last year after Mack Golf collapsed but Knowsley council stepped in to save it.

A police spokeswoman told the ECHO: “Merseyside Police can confirm officers are in attendance in Huyton this morning following the discovery of a man’s body.

“Police and paramedics attended Bowring Park Gold Course at around 9am and recovered the body of a man thought to be his 50s.”

She added: “Enquiries are ongoing to formally identify the man and inform his next of kin.

“At this time the death is being treated as unexplained.  A post-mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death.”
