The final four in the championship flight of match play included finalists Matt Toney and Ben Mattingly who edged Cam Westjohn and Nic Hofman.
Toney, a two-time city champion, beat Westjohn 3 & 1 after 17 holes. Mattingly a division-one golfer himself, beat Harrison High School standout Nic Hofman 4 & 2 through 16 holes.
“The back nine was really my best golf and I knew that I would have to play my best golf to beat Nic, and fortunately I did,” said Mattingly. “I really didn’t miss any shots out there on the back nine and I birdied three holes there at the end to close him out.”
“I hit a lot of greens on the front nine I was striking the ball pretty well I didn’t get in a lot of trouble, and when I did, I was able to get it up and down,” said Toney. “I hit a couple bad shots but most of the time I was able to get it up and down and make a couple puts.”
Toney and Mattingly tee off at 8:50 a.m. Sunday morning for the city championship from the Kampen Course on Purdue’s campus.
