MONROE, La. – The Twin Cities Golf Association and ULM nursing students spent the day giving back to the community feeding families in need at the DeSiard Street Shelter.
Dozens of families gathered for a free hot meal and a chance to interact and play games.
Organizer Billy Varner says the time volunteers spent today will go a long way.
Varner says, “Everybody wants to give items and bring things, but the biggest thing is to come down and share your time and your love because most of the time the individuals that we serve, we’re the only family that they have.”
Varner says to keep in mind that shelter residents need help all year round, not just during the holidays.
